Because this winter has been relatively snow-free by New Hampshire standards, organizers of yesterday’s Snow & Ice Festival had to ask the folks from nearby Granite Gorge ski area to build a snowboard hill with trucked-in snow.
Although I’ve never been snowboarding or downhill skiing for that matter, I think I understand the basic concept. Step one: build momentum.

Step two: show off your skateboard-honed tricks on a conveniently placed snowboard rail…and hope the local paparazzi catch you in the act.

Step three: the dismount. Gravity sucks, especially if an over-eager photographer is there to capture the Agony of Defeat.

I understand you have had only a little snow this year, but that trucked in snow hill is plug-ugly! All that dirt mixed in makes it look bad.

Yep, that’s part of why late winter is so damn depressing. The snow that remains is “used” snow, full of dirt & car exhaust.
In a normal winter, this ugly snow would get covered by fresh snow, and we’d get the “uglies” only during mud season. But this year we’ve been getting bits of ugly snow all season long.

Loved the pictures, but I loved the commentary more.
Thanks for the giggle.

Oh, that looks grim! I know we have been spoiled out here with almost 150% of normal snowpack… a la fresh Rocky Mountain powder… but that just looks like it hurts!
