Ever since my first trip to Findlay, Ohio last summer, I’ve been fascinated by the old rusty staircase that ascends one of the brick buildings at the corner of Main and Front Streets. Yesterday was a bright, partly cloudy day, giving me a great opportunity to capture the lines and curves of this stairway’s antique form.
I’m not convinced this is a stairway to heaven…but it’s surely a stairway to somewhere.
For two more images from yesterday’s partly cloudy day in downtown Findlay, Ohio, check out my most recent post on Area 603.

Yes, I’ve tried on various trips to get that exact shot, and there have always been parked cars in the way. (Yesterday, in fact, as I stopped on the opposite side of the street to take a zoomed version of that shot, a guy in an oncoming car actually *stopped* several yards back from the traffic light so he wouldn’t get in the way!)
I think I’m seeing staircases & such differently after seeing qB’s pix of Montreal fire escapes!

Love this old rusty staircase and the brick buildings contrast. They fit very well.

Do you know when it was made? Look at the bricks; they’re not turned at each fifth row, that’s extremely unusual. That building (staircase included originally?) was not constructed by professional masons. When was that built? Is that real brick or just a facade?

Yes, Sonia, I love the look of rusty brown metal against reddish brick. It’s very striking!
hardyandtiny, I have no idea when this building was made or if the bricks are merely a facade, but I’ll be sure to look more closely the next time I’m downtown. (I’m going to guess that the staircase is as old as the building & that the building was built around the turn of the century, but that’s pure speculation based on the age/appearance of other buildings in this part of downtown.) I’ll let you know what (if anything!) I’m able to find out!

Wow, each photo is really a little work of art. We don’t see stairways like this being made today.

The second photo is my favorite! …though they’re all quite good. Like you, I favor staircases, but we don’t have any so fanciful as this in old Gunsan.

would it be odd to say that this photo is not only sexy, but unbelievably fulfilling in a texturally-rich sort of way?
you know how I like these captures when you find the perfect lines and curves … it feeds my sensual aesthetic in the most delicious way.
perfection … and yummy. Thanks, Lorianne.

That is a beautiful staircase. What the heck is all that in the comment above?
