I’m not a cell phone user myself but it seems to me that there is a tacit understanding that cell phone calls are more quick and casual than a private, sit-down conversation at home, and so there may not be the time or privacy to get into “how are you?” Or perhaps the “where are you?” helps establish how deep one can get with the conversation. In the car one can discuss sensitive matters; in the grocery story lineup, not so much. Of course there are the exceptions who are willing to talk about anything anywhere…

Thanks! I had to chuckle, though, because they are planted in the exact spot where there was ornamental jimsonweed last year. I’m beginning to think this particular plot is the “garden of hallucinogens” since both poppies and jimsonweed have that effect.
