Maybe today’s arctic chill makes me particularly fond of this July scene. One of today’s tasks was to wrap (and tomorrow mail) a stack of 2010 photo calendars for my family back in Ohio, and of the 13 shots (12 months plus a cover image) that made this year’s cut, this image of a green bee on pollinating a purple coneflower is my favorite. I’ve always loved purple coneflowers, and it took some trying to get a handful of pictures worth sharing. And on a bitterly cold December day, it’s always good to cherish a memory of a warm and sunny July day.
This is my contribution for today’s Photo Friday theme, Best of 2009. Enjoy!

With the snow storm coming to New England tonight it was nice to see this beautiful picture from warmer days, I agree it makes the calendar cut definitely. I like the green in the insect against the prickly orange of the flower very much.

Your photography is so wonderful. And since you are snowed in, I bet it is nice to recall that July day. What kind of camera and lenses do you use? I never get this clarity with my Nikon D60. Tell me about photo Friday.

Yes, I took a lot of pictures that day waiting to get this one green bee, as he was so striking! He definitely stood out among the other bees.
Fran, I took this shot with my pocket-sized point-and-shoot, a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3. It’s what I take most of my blog pictures with, although I also have a Lumix DMC-FZ28 which is slightly larger (i.e. not pocket-sized!) Both are point-and-shoot digicams: I’m too lazy to deal with SLR cameras and hassle of interchangeable lens. 🙂
Photo Friday is a website that suggests a theme every Friday, then folks post links on that site to the blog-post where they illustrated that theme. It’s a good way to find interesting photo-blogs…and a good prompt for a quick Friday picture-post!
