Today in the midst of collecting a several-foot-tall pile of essay portfolios, I took Reggie for a midday walk by the Ashuelot River. The ice storm that crusted my car in Newton on Monday morning produced wet snow here in Keene…and today the trees were fringed with a feathery fur of rice-sized frost crystals. It’s difficult to photograph white on white, but I managed to snap a handful of images to share. Enjoy!

You did beautifully. Especially for white on white.

Oh, very nice! Don’t forget the Lumix’s “Snow” setting – I found last year that it did very well with white on white.

Yes, the “Snow” setting worked great for landscape shots…but the real challenge was taking up-close snow shots since I couldn’t set it for “Snow” and “Macro” both.
I had to keep switching back & forth between the two settings, and the only seemingly up-close shots that turned out were actually far-away “Snow” shots where I used the zoom to make it look like a close-up. The Macro setting just couldn’t focus on white on white.

These are all wonderful, Lorianne. The infinite variety of seeming colorlessness. Your far-off ones are especially appealing.
Very nice work.

Gotcha. I ran into the same thing myself. Some day I should learn something a few technical details beyond the automatic settings. I’d have to wear my bifocals, though. š¦

Fine photo.
Brrrr.
It’s going into the high thirties tonight here, allegedly, I’ll need an extra blanket.
