If you’re a wild turkey looking for a quiet place to lie low for the holidays, you could do far worse than choosing to nestle beside a grave in Mount Auburn Cemetery, far from hungry hunters or cooks with roasting pans. Cemeteries provide a tranquil respite from even the most hectic holiday hubbub, and Mount Auburn has a long history of harboring creatures who simply want to lie in a safe spot.

A terrific moment! I’ve heard cemeteries are great places for birds and wildlife — this is a good example.

Magical……
The veils are so very thin near Solstice, I have no doubt that some wonderful communication was going on here………..
Merry, merry!

Love it – nice spot! I like how the turkey’s neck matches the red bow – looks like he’s another decoration on the grave.

Thanks, all. I’m glad you enjoyed this! Mount Auburn is a great place to go birdwatching, and this turkey and its mate are a prime example of how “wild” a place it can be.
I agree with Leslee: had we not seen this turkey standing and then settling down, we probably would have passed right by, thinking it was part of the decor.
